2 Main Causes of Osteoporosis Post Menopause in Older Women

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Xylene Belita asked:

The medical definition of Osteoporosis is a disease of the bone. It is described that the bone mass and density have decreased thus making the bone high-risk to fracture. This kind of disease is caused by the bone tissue that is deteriorating resulting for bones to become brittle and vulnerable to rupture. Osteoporosis post menopause occurs commonly in older women who have been through menopause.

The vital part of our system is the skeleton. It serves as the framework of our body that keeps us to stand erect. Our bone is made up of collagen protein and calcium phosphate. These two main components are essentially working together to keep the bone hard and strong. Our body before it reaches the age of 30 undergoes the so called balance of weakening and mending. However, our body’s ability to repair drops as we become old. Unfortunately, women suffer most with Osteoporosis.

Generally, Osteoporosis occurs to women who are in their menopausal stage. To date, there are already millions of women who are diagnosed with this predicament. Every year the number of women with Osteoporosis increases, thus all women must be cautious of their health and must take care of their bone. There are some identified causes of this disorder.

The two main causes of Osteoporosis are as follows:

1) Number one factor is the menopausal effects fasten together with a woman’s age. Women in menopausal stages are going through hormonal imbalance that eventually affects the bone, thus Osteoporosis post menopause can usually happen in older women.

2) Number two factor is pointed to genetics. Women who have older generations who went through Osteoporosis are prone to suffer the same ailment when they get older.

Take the multi-vitamin for women, so you can prevent Osteoporosis post menopause before it strikes you.

Natural Osteoporosis Treatment - in Three Easy Steps

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009
osteoporosis
Madeleine Innocent asked:

Natural osteoporosis treatment is highly effective, because in most cases the cause is simply a case of a bad diet.

The western diet of high protein in the form of meat, of high dairy consumption, of high processed foods and of little raw fruit and vegetables is basically the cause of most osteoporosis.

Couple that with some of the medications used to treat osteoporosis, most of which do more harm than good, and you have a recipe for poor bone density.

Let me explain.

When you look at wild animals eating meat, it is always accompanied by bones. Meat needs calcium to digest. So if you have a high meat intake, your body has to take the calcium from somewhere, in order to digest the meat. Your bones have the highest source.

Dairy is high in calcium, but it is in a form which is only available for baby cows who have not been weaned. Those of us who have been weaned and who aren’t bovine have a hard time digesting this. And it does you little good, making your body pH acid.

Any gardener will tell you that an acid soil needs calcium. So do you. But in a form that is in natural balance, that you can absorb easily. The best source of this is food. Such as green leafy vegetables. These are high in calcium, in a form that is easily absorbed by your body.

Processed food is food which has been denatured, either by the removal of key nutrients that help digest it (such as wheat germ in flour and molasses in sugar) or has been cooked so much, there is little goodness left.

So avoid processed food.

For natural osteoporosis treatment, first change your diet. Make it high in fresh fruit and veggies, especially green leafy veggies. Eat as much of it raw as you can. Eliminate or cut down on animal protein (meat, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy). Green leafy veggies are high in protein as are nuts and seeds.

Cut out processed food. This can be a tough one, so be creative in your alternatives. Sugar can be replaced with honey. Milk can be replaced with oat or nut milk. Use wholemeal, stone ground biodynamic flour. Avoid soy and artificial sweeteners. They are probably worse than what they are replacing, for different reasons.

The second most important thing to do is to take a supplement. But the supplement should be a superfood, rather than the common isolated and synthetic supplements. Synthetic and isolated supplements are very hard for your body to utilise. At best they go straight through (expensive poo). At worst, they hang up in parts of your body to create problems later on.

Blue green algae is a wonderful superfood, high in easily absorbable calcium and all its related nutrients.

And finally, to complete your natural osteoporosis treatment at home, take the tissue salt Calc phos 6x. Suggested dosage frequency is two to four times a day. This is available from health food stores, homeopaths, naturopaths, homeopathic pharmacies and online.

If your osteoporosis is quite severe, then I suggest you seek the services of a professional homeopath, in addition to the above life changes.

Herbal Remedies for Osteoporosis causes and symptoms

adrianna smith asked:

Herbal Remedies for Osteoporosis causes and symptoms

Osteoporosis is characterized by exaggeration of this process, because of an imbalance between the activity of osteoblasts (bone cells that provide training) and that of osteoclasts (cells that ensure the destruction of bone): for a same volume, the bone is less dense, therefore more fragile. Osteoporosis is a condition where the bones begin to lose their density, placing the sufferer at increased risk of a fracture or break. It’s a condition that typically occurs as we age when the body is less able to regenerate healthy new bone.

Osteoporosis or porous bones is a disease that affects primarily white and Asian women. After menopause, the ovaries stop producing the female hormone estrogen that affects the calcium content of bones. As the bones lose calcium, they become thin and brittle. Although men may also suffer from osteoporosis as they age, women are more vulnerable because they have less bone mass.

Causes - The causes of osteoporosis are multiple. The most common is postmenopausal osteoporosis. At menopause, estrogen levels (hormones patrons of bone) suffer a collapse, while that of corticosteroids (hormones that increase bone resorption) remain constant. Senile osteoporosis is observed particularly in women past 60 years, the frequency increases with age. It is favored by the inactivity of the absence of exposure to natural light (which allows the skin to synthesize vitamin D), from a system low in calcium and protein. Osteoporosis can be and endocrine or drug origin: excess thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism or related to a bad treatment of a hipotiroidii dosed) or parathyroid (presence of a parathyroid adenoma in one), corticosteroids (Cushing’s disease, treatment corticosteroid), etc.. The osteoporosis may occur at any age.

Symptoms and signs - Fractures are the main manifestations of osteoporosis. Place of production varies with fracture reduction as bone density affects cortical bone or spongy bone.

Some natural and herbal remedies for osteoporosis:

Eat a healthy diet which includes plenty of calcium and vitamin D. Exercise regularly and cut down on alcohol and cigarettes. For good source of calcium have low-fat milk, yoghurt, cheese, and orange juice, green leafy vegetable like spinach, cereals and breads.

A twenty minute walk three to four times a week may help you tremendously. You can also go biking, swimming or join aerobic dancing classes to improve the bone condition. Engage in weight-bearing exercises as these help in strengthening the bones. If you have a swimming pool or a beach around your house, go walking in chest deep water for 30 minutes at least three days a week. This prevents stress on your bones hence there is less erosion.

A cup of milk has 100 international units of vitamin D. Four cups a day could be your daily dose of vitamin D. Studies have also shown that post-menopausal women can have supplements containing manganese (5 mg/day), copper (2.5 mg/day), and zinc (15 mg/day) in combination with a calcium supplement (1,000 mg/day). It is termed to be more effective than having the calcium supplement alone.

Consume less salt and avoid food products which have more than 300 milligrams of salt per serving. Stay away from carbonated beverages like cola and soft drinks. The phosphoric acid present in carbonated drinks contains phosphorus, which if had in excess, can cause elimination of calcium from the body.

Women are more prone to osteoporosis than men.

- Increasing age

- Hereditary

- Low estrogen and testosterone level in women and men respectively.

- Thin and frail body structure or suffering from anorexia nervosa

- Calcium and vitamin D deficiency

- Lack of exercise

- Smoking and drinking alcohol has adverse effects on the bone density.

- Use of certain medication or drugs

A little exercise can go a long way in avoid osteoporosis, a crippling bone disease that influence 200 million people worldwide.

Who Is At Risk For Osteoporosis?

Friday, September 11th, 2009
osteoporosis
Julie asked:

A lot of people are under the misconception that just because they are young they are not at risk for osteoporosis. This could not be farther from the truth. Being young does not automatically equal healthy just like a slim person does not automatically resemble the picture of good health. Older people are more susceptible to getting osteoporosis because as you age, you experience bone reduction (men and women experience bone loss in different ways due to various factors such as hormones). You need to know that this disease can strike at any age, but it is predominately seen in older individuals.

Women tend to get osteoporosis as a general statement.  Women usually have smaller bones than men, so as they age and bone mass decreases, they more commonly develop osteoporosis.  Women lose bone mass earlier than men as well, since women stop producing natural hormones at an earlier age.  Men, however, are not immune to osteoporosis.  Men can have the disease as well, but it often shows up later in life than for women.

Like a lot of other diseases or conditions, your genetic makeup can play a big role in whether or not you will develop osteoporosis. If one or both of your parents have suffered from this condition, chances are you too will have the condition or suffer a reduction in bone mass making you more prone to experience bone fractures at some point in your life.

If you are someone who did drugs or drank heavily at an early age, you may have put yourself at greater risk for getting osteoporosis. It is always important to take care of your body, after all you only get one. Doctors are still conducting research to find the exact reasons why substance abuse causes a greater risk for osteoporosis as well as bone fractures. This is one of the risk factors that can be changed with awareness and assistance from a substance abuse program if necessary.

From the time you were young, you were always told to drink your milk, eat cheese, and vegetables. Listening to this advice at an early age can help prevent osteoporosis in the future because these are foods that contain calcium.  Calcium is what your bones need to grow strong, and the stronger they are in young adulthood, the stronger they will be later in life.

There are many more risk factors for osteoporosis. The best advice is to take care of yourself. In my research I have found that more people consult with their physician for possible ways to reduce the risk of osteoporosis only after someone closes to them has been diagnosed. Live a healthier tomorrow today. Take one day at a time.

Are you at risk for developing osteoporosis? If you are concerned about your health, and want to live a more active and healthy lifestyle, don’t wait another day. Take care of your body and your health before it’s too late!
